AUTOMATON JDM 2008, 2012 ✦ digital photos, CG, Wacom ✦ illustrated-photography (digital)    JDM stands for "Japanese Domestic Market". This is the sequel to "Automaton Classic", which I made in spring 2006. I really wanted to make a significant jump over its predecessor, in regards to detail, setting, atmospheric lighting, and impact. This piece is made of 26 different Japanese cars & motorcycles (production and concept) that I shot in Japan and in the US. Bonus: the main red car in the chest plate is actually my Mazda3. A few other vehicles includes are the Nissan GT-R, Honda Evo 6 concept, Nissan March, Mitsubishi i, Mazda Demio, Mazda Furai concept, Mazda Taiki concept, etc… The background is at the Ebisubashi Bridge in the Dōtonbori area of Osaka, Japan. Since the original file of this (and many others) was lost in my late-2008 hard drive failure, I salvaged it from a scanned print. I wasn't happy at first with the results, and in 2012 I took another shot at it after luckily finding some of the layers of the original file on some random disc. Ultimately, I'm more happy with this 2012 version, as it has more environmental tweaks (light pollution, haze, bloom, etc). This piece is among my personal favorites.
