Hi, I'm Evan Hayden. I like to do photography,
illustration, and comic books. I particularly like to combine my
photography and illustration together into a hybrid of sorts... I also
occasionally like to make music and design clothing. Have fun checking out my wares, and let me know what you think.

I have been contracting
for Unvarnished, a consumer-facing peer review site start-up. I have
been in control of crafting the brand identity, site design, user
interface (UI) design, and other graphics needs. The job has
consistently required critical thinking of how a user can gracefully and
easily work through a large robust database of information, and add to
that database, while designing UI in a way that keeps the user “on
track”.

RENTAL DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATE

At Calumet, I checked out
equipment to professional photographers and businesses, made and filled
reservations, delivered items, did minor repair, and provided tech support
for lighting gear and cameras of many varieties (including DSLR, digital
medium format, large format, and panoramic). Unfortunately, I had to
leave this job early due to a family emergency. |

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

In my position as the in-house graphic designer at Spleak Media Network, I gave the product an entirely new look for the company relaunch, and handled all of the day-to-day graphics needs. Major accomplishments included visual design for the company websites, the broadcast widget, activity windows for the AIM and MSN platforms, social networking pages, emoticons, email & Powerpoint templates, business cards, and t-shirts, redesign of the company mascot, logos, color theme, and user-interface design. My position expanded to include product planning for the company’s multimedia widgets, and the co-founding & maintenance of the video game site, gamespleak.com.

Worked as a photographer for the Columbus Ohio branch - and later the Hayward California branch - of Auto Trader magazine. Took photos of customers' vehicles for Trader Publications' various magazines (ie: Auto Trader, Truck Trader, Tradin' Times, Cycle Trader, Classic Car Trader, etc). Also helped customers to place ads for the magazines, utilizing various keywords and formatting to emphasize the traits of their vehicle. I currently work on an on-call basis, helping to run the booth at auto shows, as occur.

PHOTO ISSUE ROOM CLERK

Worked as photo issue room clerk in the Academy of Art’s Van Ness warehouse photo studio and the Sutter studios. Responsibilities included checking equipment out to students and faculty, operating and positioning the Chimera overhead light bank (a large rail-mounted soft box with 12 strobe heads), opening and closing the studios, helping photography students, fixing equipment, cleaning, inventory and repair of equipment between semesters, and various office tasks. |

I also participated in the Japanese student & culture association, helping with various events. |

Experience with various alternative processes: Van Dyke brown, Cyanotype, Kodalith, etc. Hand-processing of T-Max film and 4x5 sheet film.

Inc”. to cover Designer’s Night, a large private party for automotive
designers and other auto industry executives.

Upcoming Camilo Pardo Documentary
I am currently taking photos of famed car designer and fine artist Camilo Pardo for an upcoming documentary. He is the designer who penned the Ford GT supercar. The project will be done this summer.

Electric Ant
San Francisco, CA In November 2008, Ryan Sands and I launched our magazine / comic & literary anthology “Electric Ant”. I have handled the graphic design and layout, as well as illustration, and some of the comics. Working with Ryan, I also helped to curate several indie comics stars such as Derek Kirk Kim, Hellen Jo, and Derek Yu, to make interesting and funny content. It is available for purchase online, and sold in various stores, including Giant Robot and Quimby’s.
Issue #2 came out in late 2009, and I included my heavy involvement in
the graphics, layout, and illustration.

San Francisco, CA I have done several product & model photo shoots for the website of the car / laptop / wall art company, Infectious. Responsibilities included lighting and photographing their vinyl cling graphics in various lifestyle shoots that have will be used as “hero shots” on the main page of the website when the fall / winter line launches.

San Francisco, CA Co-founder and co-editor of a blog that includes manga news & commentary. In addition to writing & illustrating original web comics for the site, I also have done production work for Japanese language materials, focusing on unlicensed indie/underground manga. These responsibilities include scanning, lettering, color formatting, file formatting & resizing, and touch-up art. Actively participate in the online manga community. The site receives around 1500+ unique visitors per week., and 100+ people via Livejournal syndication

Intersection Magazine
London UK October 2007: Assistant to
the photographer for the Tokyo Motor Show concept car shoots. I also
shot many different interesting details and themed photos around the
show. The shoot was used in the Winter 2007 issue.
January 2007: Assistant to the photographer Alex Freund for the Nissan Bevel concept shoot. The shoot was used in the Spring 2007 issue.
January 2009: I worked as Intersection’s photographer for coverage of
the NAIAS (Detroit Auto Show). This will be printed in the spring 2009
issue.
